This year, we finished off with a firework display by Judi Newall, followed with music by Djai Skjellerup, after a final week of music and literary events.

There were five competitions running through the AWE, each with a L$5000 prize:

A prize for the best exhibition display, to be judged throughout the exhibition; |

A poetry competition, for a poem on the theme of Celebration; |
|
A short prose competition, also on the theme of Celebration; |
|
A journalism competition; |
|
The best fancy dress costume at the Autumn Writers' Ball; |
|
Plus a further L$1000 prize for the best Halloween costume. |

Best Display

Huckleberry Hax for a bleak and atmospheric scene from one of his novels - including sounds of a fly, burgers frying and Terry Wogan on the radio! |
Best Prose Piece
| Renee Silverfall for 'Right is Wrong, Left is Right', an amusing slice of (real) life by a Swedish writer, that will appeal to all those with no sense of direction ... click on the picture to download the story |
Best Poem
| Hypatia Pickens for 'Connie Groondie' which means, in Welsh, 'to purr'. If you can read this without crying, you have no heart. click on the picture to download the poem |
